8 common reasons why your website won’t give you business

How often do you, or your web designer, update your website, including blog posts?

A common misconception is that once you’re website has been created, you don’t need to do anything more with it. Business will come to you.  Wrong!  You’re website is your shop window, but without good content, design and SEO (achieving page one on searches) potential clients won’t find you online.

If much of your business is from referrals, you’re very lucky. However, you shouldn’t rely on them.

15 Reasons why

  1. The website hasn’t been updated for months.
  2. You (wrongly!) assumed potential clients would find you once your website was complete, so you haven’t done any more since.
  3. You assumed that your webmaster is a Content Writer and had carried out SEO on your new website – it’s often not the case.
  4. You don’t have a blog yet – it’s one of the best ways to add content.
  5. There is no CTA (call to action) on an page.
  6. It’s unclear what your business offers.
  7. The website isn’t easy to navigate.
  8. There are lots of boring blocks of test without headings and images.
  9. There are no testimonials.
  10. You don’t explain what makes you different to your competitors.
  11. You haven’t added any new blog posts, recently.
  12. There are too many different services or products on the same page – this confuses Google.
  13. You didn’t bother to do any keyword research.
  14. The SEO meta headings and descriptions for each page are poor (mostly grey needs work to make them ‘green’).
  15. Your business relies on local traffic, but you don’t use your area keywords (ie: your local town name) in your SEO.

If some or all of the above apply to your website, make the changes. Some are quick and easy, others will take a while. But do it and you will notice a difference in your website traffic, and enquiries.
